NEW - Easy to Remember Shortcodes For Communities

Today we changed the way we assign Touch Tone(tm) dial codes to newly created communities. Now when you create a community, the system helps you pick an easy to remember handle (6-20 chars long) and then translates this to an easy to remember shortcode (ex. TENNIS = 836647). So if someone can remember your community's nickname, they can easily dial into your voice board or conference room. Plus, watch for a big upgrade to the web design in a week or so...

Promote Your Radio Handi Groups

You can use Radio Handi to communicate with your existing groups. It's as easy as pasting a link into your website or MySpace profile. We're developing a gallery of links, buttons and widgets that tell your website visitors when your voice chats are active, and enable people to join your group by clicking a link. Follow the Spread the Word! link on your group's Radio Handi web page for more information.

Start a Conference Call via Email

With traditional teleconferencing systems, setting up a conference is generally quite a pain. We've just made it as easy as CCing an email address. To create a conference and voice message board on the fly, just send an email invite to your friends or colleagues, and then BCC invite@radiohandi.com. We'll create a temporary conference and email everyone dial-in directions. Simple. No fees. No registration. Just copy us on an email and you're off to the races.

Group Messaging Now Online

This week we turned group messaging on for all public and private groups. You can now use your group as a general purpose message board, and can:

  • Send an email to everyone on your group by sending an email to groupnumber@radiohandi.com
  • Send an SMS to everyone on your group by sending an SMS to +1-866-687-2373 with the format "groupnumber your message follows"
  • Record a voice message on your community's phone message board, anyone else can call in and listen to, and record messages as well (voice messages will also be forwarded via email soon)
  • All email, SMS and voice messages will be displayed in your web inbox

See your group's web landing page for specific instructions on how to use group messaging features, as we'll be fine tuning these throughout June.

Using SIP (Voice over Internet) To Call Us Toll-Free

Radio Handi is built from the ground up next generation communication technology. If you have Internet phone software that uses SIP, such as Gizmo, you can call Radio Handi communities directly via your broadband connection, toll-free, from anywhere in the world. Just call your_group_number@radiohandi.com, and you will go directly to the community's message board and conference bridge. If you are an Internet phone provider, you can make Radio Handi a toll-free call for your customers. Just map the shortcode HANDI (42634) to main@sip.radiohandi.com.

UPDATE: you can also dial us via SipBroker, by dialing any SipBroker number worldwide, then dial *7605nnnnnn where nnnnnn is the Radio Handi group number, when prompted. (Disclaimer: these numbers are not operated by Radio Handi, so we cannot guarantee that they will work).

Posting Messages To Your Web Board Via Email

You can post messages to your group's message board as easily you can send an email. Every Radio Handi community has its own message board. You can send messages to other group members via voice mail, email, and SMS. We'll be turning these features on throughout the next two weeks.

To post a message to your web board via email, just send an email to your_group_number@radiohandi.com, and within a minute or two, you'll see it appear in the Messages section of your group's web page. Soon you'll also be able to send messages via SMS (text messaging) and via voice mail. Watch our blog for news about new features and options.
